Playing in the Sandbox

Playing in the sandbox is an activity that provides children with an opportunity to have fun with other peers but in addition to this is can also be a much needed learning experience for them to have at an early age. A good thing about the sand is that it is one of the most manipulative substances on earth that is available in abundance. It is also a relatively un-harmful substance that allows children at play to remain safe. Children playing in the sand have the opportunity to build castles, hunt for things, and find fossils in the sandbox as well which let encourages them to speculate and build their imaginations. This can be a beneficial thing when it comes to creativity later on in life as studies show that the child and adolescent period is the best time in life for a person to grow intellectually and learn new things.

In addition to this, sand has a fair number of other properties that make it a very good substance to work with for children in the sandbox. This substance easily forms mounds when damp which can then be made into almost any shape or structure that a child can come up with. Children can also learn to control their bodies when they are playing in the sand which can help them to improve their motor functions overall. In addition to this the sand offers some other interesting properties under different conditions which a child can learn from. Some of these conditions include the facts that this substance is less malleable when wet, and when it is hot outside the sand can be dry on the surface but cool underneath. In any case though, a sandbox is a very natural environment and a child can benefit greatly from being in it.
